42keys Cylinder Street Organ with trumpets
Ludovic GAVIOLI vers 1867
This barrel organ, made by the renowned Gavioli firm, plays eight melodies by turning the crank, thanks to the various sets of wooden pipes, including eleven trumpets. Seventy-nine pipes are housed in this restricted space. We can admire the artistic skill of the organ-builder.
It is the trumpets, which give the instrument all its brilliance and sound power, and the piccolos that give this tone of the instruments of the mid-19th century.
From the iconography, we know that this type of organ was not designed to accompany singers but to bring the crowd before street performances, magic lantern projections or the reading of a pamphlet.
