Feux Pyriques
LOT 200 - Les Feux Pyriques de l'Hotel de Montmorency-Luxembourg
Anonymous, Paris – 1760/1830
Set of optical views on large format paper gouached and enhanced, with light effects type "night and day", by direct vision in day lighting and night vision in transparency with rear lighting.
Realizations colored by hand with gouache, which may date from the years of splendor of the Hotel de Montmorency-Luxembourg (1760/1789).
However, the reinforcement papers of the frame are cut out of newspapers of the 1830s, which could of course indicate a later[1]realization, or rather a restoration at that time, after many performances.
This suite consists of 7 pieces without apparent title, even if we can recognize a romantic evocation of the great Festes of Versailles through the groves and fountains of the Salle des Rocailles, and those of Neptune, Mercury, Cupid, the Swan, the presence of Actaeon or Jupiter on Olympus.
Size
105 x 76 cm
Condition
The whole is generally in good condition, even if we note traces of dirt and a small tear in the view of the swan.
Estimate
2000/3000 €
[1] These artistic suites of optical views are then published in lithography by the imagers of the province who develop their own iconographic repertoire; see works of the printing house Dembour & Gangel, in Metz, circa 1840.
