Monkey playing violin on an organet
Monkey playing violin on an organet
Attributed to Jérôme Thibouville - end of 19th century
Sitting in front of a music desk, an automaton violinist monkey accompanies with his bow, the music of the organette on which he is installed. This charming subject reminds us of the time when musicians were dressed in monkeys, so as not to confuse them with quality people… With the label of the Maison Simonne, Passage Delorme, 188 rue de Rivoli in Paris, established in 1836 until 1893.
