Automaton representing an enamelled Swiss landscape painted in the background. Under a dome, two couples of dancers turn on a floor surrounded by mirrors. Framing the stage, a conductor marks the tempo for a solo harpist.
Mechanical movement with manual winding, cylinder exhaust, flat three-arm brass balance wheel with regulator. A buzzer drives the automata with a pinned cylinder raising the vibrating teeth of a keyboard consisting of six groups of two blades.
The master watchmaker Louis Duchêne (1730-1804) of Geneva was renowned for his automaton and repeater watches. Since 1791, his son went into partnership and the company was renamed Louis Duchêne et fils. The firm excels in the manufacture of enamelled and complication watches: minute repeater, small and large bell, jumping hours. But it will be best known for its automatons exported to China.
