Le Savoyard, terracotta figure with interghangeable discs music boc Mod. 100
POLYPHON MUSIKWERKE, Leipzig vers 1890
The Savoyard perfectly embodies the role of the street musician who descends from his mountains in winter, to earn a living in the city by showing ferocious bears or endearing marmots, or by playing the street organ around the corner of the streets of the major European cities.
What could be more natural then, that the firm Polyphon of Leipzig immortalized the concept by creating a primitive "jukebox" with coin-slot and interchangeable discs, by gathering their own music box animated by a Goldscheider’s terracotta figure. In fact, it is the polyphon mechanism that drives the boy's papier-mâché hand.
