Model of famous VIN FIZ biplane made by the Wright brothers in 1911. Piloted by Calbraith P. Rodgers, this Wright EX biplane made the first crossing of America, 4300 miles in 82 hours and 4 minutes, at an average speed of 51.2 mph.
In 1910, William Randolph Hearst promises a $50,000 award for the first pilot who 'll make a transcontinental flight (New York - Pasadena), in less than thirty days.
Leaving New York on September 17, 1911, Rodgers will arrive too late in Pasadena, then continue to Long Beach in California, after 49 days full of numerous adventures.
Made of metal with thick paint, in the primitive German toys fashion, this single-engined two-propeller bears the registration VIN FIZ, and the logo of the producer of a grape soda, sponsor having financed the adventure.
